PRESCHOOL LANGUAGE PROGRAM (PLP): Download Emergency Card Download Registration Form

** Intensive Language Educational Program for ages 3-5**

PLP is an intensive early intervention program administered in a language-enriched environment and supported by a team approach. A creative, bilingual curriculum is utilized to support a child’s natural growth of language through activities such as circle time, story time, art, music and movement, science, dramatic and role play. Pre-reading and pre-math skills are emphasized. Goals are age-appropriate and customized to the individual. Students also get 1:1 with the teacher.

WHAT IS THE PRESCHOOL LANGUAGE PROGRAM?

The program incorporates an inclusive and whole language approach to create a natural and comfortable atmosphere that promotes and encourages children to perform to the best of their abilities in activities that develop educational concepts and pragmatic language skills.  The focus is to provide children with the opportunity to:

  • Expand expressive-receptive language
  • Increase attending skills
  • Express thoughts, wants, needs and emotions in order to communicate with others
  • Develop age-appropriate speech and language
  • Improve pronunciation and articulation
  • Promote social interaction with peers in a safe environment
  • Encourage self-confidence and involvement in group and individual task activities
  • Explore problem solving techniques and demonstrate creativity
  • Follow directions and expand self-regulatory behaviors
  • Prepare for a school setting that includes participation in group activities and following routines, etc.

HOW IS PLP STRUCTURED?

PLP is open to all children without regard to race, color, national or ethnic origin. Students are admitted upon consideration of a complete diagnostic evaluation and parent interview. The evaluation must be recent (within 6 months of the application for admission). The classroom will be limited to 6 children, between the ages of 3-5 years old. Morning and afternoon class times are offered during the week. Classes are three hours in length, and children can attend three to five days per week.

WHO ARE THE PLP TEACHERS?

SPEC strongly believes in a “team approach” to provide your child the best and most complete services available. A bilingual Bachelor’s or Master’s level teacher runs the program. In addition, an on-site speech language pathologist, occupational therapist, and music therapist work with the classroom teacher to monitor and revise the program goals and those of each child as needed. Individual speech-language therapy may be incorporated into the child’s program.
